The Queen of Soul

Location: Twin Palms, Palm Springs, CA

I just sent my 'girl of the moment' home with Jilly. I prefer to sleep alone. She was a cute girl... Karen, I think her name was. Anyway, not my type at all. Of course I didn't say anything like that to her when Jimmy Van Heusen brought her by. You never do that to a woman. Particularly the kind of woman Karen is, if you get my drift. These ladies deserve respect and rarely get it. They work hard and it's a difficult, dangerous and thankless job.

Anyway, she and I had dinner, listened to some music, sat out by the pool and watched the sun set. I slipped her $500, a signed photograph and the phone number to an agent who'll take care of her and get her the acting career she really wants.

Speaking of people who work hard, I just read this article about Aretha Franklin. She put out a collection of her duets throughout the years. Her favorite one? I'll give you three guesses and you better get it right on the first one. Yes sir, her favorite is the one she sang with The Chairman himself. I'm touched, absolutely touched.

This lady's got power, real power, just listen to her. She could sing a tax return with feeling. Even though everyone knows her name and she's a true star, she deserves to be an even bigger star than she is. Aretha truly is the Queen of Soul as only a queen could ever really touch my soul. Buy her album, for yourself and everyone you know. Again, I don't make requests, just do it.

Hittin' The Brits

Been gettin' emails about when I'm gonna' start performing again. Particularly from "Foggy London Town". Apparently The Chairman is revered in England. Not a surprise. I'm generally loved the world over (it is my world afterall).

As you know, when the people talk, I listen. I actually read ever email I get and even respond to a few. So I decided to head the call of Merry Ol' England and book some dates for the spring. Here are the dates so far:

Tuesday 11th – Sunday 16th March Brighton Centre
Tuesday 18th – Sunday 23rd March Nottingham Royal Centre
Tuesday 25th – Saturday 29th March Sunderland Empire
Tuesday 1st – Sunday 6th April Oxford New Theatre
Tuesday 8th – Sunday 13th April Plymouth Pavilions
Tuesday 15th – Sunday 20th April Cardiff Int Arena
Tuesday 22nd – Sunday 27th April Sheffield City Hall
Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th May Birmingham Symphony Hall
Monday 5th – Saturday 10th May Liverpool Empire
Monday 12th – Sunday 18th May Bristol Hippodrome
Tuesday 20th – Sunday 25th May Southend Cliffs Pavilion
Tuesday 27th May – Sunday 1st June Poole Lighthouse
Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th June Manchester Palace Theatre
Tuesday 10th – Tuesday 17th June London Hammersmith Apollo

PERFORMANCE TIMES: 2.30pm & 8.00pm (matinee performances on Saturday &
Sunday) Except Southend Cliffs Pavilion Sunday 25th May : 5.15pm & 8.15pm
Ticket prices vary. For details call venue box office or: 24 HR TICKET HOTLINE: 0870 735 5000 / www.bookingsdirect.com

Now I know what you're thinkin'... that's a lot of performances. Truth is, I'm not gonna' be at all of them. There's some new film/special effects process they're using to take previous performances and make it look like I'm really there. So you'll never really know if it's me or not. Either way, you get me on stage in one form or another and honestly, being able to tell your pallies that you got tickets for Sinatra is worth the price alone, right? So if you're in England this spring, grab a ticket and let me remind you why they call me The Voice.

OK, before I get any more email on the subject, let me put it to rest. I didn't spark this blaze. I haven't been to Malibu in weeks. I know what you're thinkin', but drop it. Capice?

I gotta' run. Mickey's lightin' up my iPhone.

One Smart Broad

Location: Twin Palms, Palm Springs, CA

Got up early this morning. An unusual event for me as you all know. So I spent some time in the kitchen flippin' through the newspaper and I came across this article.

It looks like Patti Smart (pictured above) is retiring from the friendly skies. Hell, she was the friendly skies! I remember Patti from the early Vegas days after Ava. Dino and I would sometimes fly out to Honolulu to hit the links between gigs. She was quite the knockout. Truly, the Angel of the skies.

We'd always get a kick out of sayin', "there goes one Smart broad" as she walked down the aisles. She was always good to us and put up with our shit and we loved her for it. It's a tough gig bein' a stewardess and she always pulled it off flawlessly. A real pro.

She was one of the few who knew how to mix my drink without bein' told twice. That gets you noticed in my world, believe me. I tried to hire her away from Aloha once, but she wouldn't budge. She's the only broad who could tell me no and make me feel like I won a natural 21. Patti's a real rarity in this world. As soon as I'm outta' the shower, I'm sendin' her a "Thanks, Sinatra" lighter.
